I've listed a few community events below that are either free or charge a nominal fee. Some are available for this week only, while others are available on an ongoing basis. I will continue to add events and resources weekly so please check back regularly.

Miami-based Albizu University’s Goodman Center
As you probably already know, the demand for treatment of mental health-related issues (e.g. depression, ADHD, stress, etc.) has increased in the past few months due to the pandemic. In order to help people struggling with these issues in Florida, Miami-based Albizu University’s Goodman Center has added telehealth capabilities and expanded hours to better serve low-income and uninsured persons on a sliding-scale fee.
Thanks to its sliding scales fees, the GC’s bilingual staff is able to serve adults, children, and families across Florida who experience financial stress. The new telehealth capabilities now enables them to securely treat new patients from the safety of their homes and add another commodity to existing patients, since many of them come from very far to get treatment due to the incredible affordability (e.g. some patients from the FL Keys preferred to spend extra on gas since it was cheaper than getting treatment locally).
The Goodman Center plans to keep this service active after the pandemic is over. For more information visit the center HERE.
Hours: Mon - Thurs 10 A.M. – 9 P.M. (Last Appointment Is at 8 P.M.). Closed on Fridays. Saturday 9am - 1pm.

Available Mental Health Services for Low-Income Families
The Institute for Child and Family Health (ICFH) provides mental health services including Individual/family therapy and psychiatry for children and adolescents in Miami-Dade County.
The institute accepts most Medicaid HMO’s and has funding for children of low-income families who do not have insurance. ICFH also provides individual/family therapy and psychiatry services for adults who have Medicaid.

Free face masks are available for pick up at all 50 of our library locations. Just stop by any location to request and pick up masks while supplies last. It’s all part of Miami-Dade County’s efforts to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and ensure that everyone in our community has access to a mask.
