Launching September 4, 2020!

August 26, 2020

Are your kids or students struggling to get into the school spirit this academic year? Introduce them to the virtual world of enchanting arts, crafts, and jaw-dropping performances with the first-ever digital All Kids Included (AKI) Family Arts Festival for children and families with and without disabilities. The South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center (SMDCAC) and the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs are launching this innovative and inclusive virtual event with support from The Children’s Trust beginning on September 4, 2020.

Inspired by the book, The Boy Who Grew Flowers, by Jennifer Wojtowicz, the theme for this year’s festival is a celebration of courage, difference, and friendship. With more than a dozen exciting videos, students can be part of the fun with interactive art classes, games, book readings, dance performances, music lessons, and so much more. On the Virtual Main Stage, children can even experience a performance of The Boy Who Grew Flowers by the TreeHouse Shakers dance and theater company.

The goal of AKIis to make arts and cultural programs inclusive, not only in school settings but throughout the community so that kids of all abilities and their families can participate fully in the arts. The hope for this program is for teachers and families to use this as a tool and resource, as we know that engagement with the arts supports learning, allows people to express themselves, helps to boost self- esteem, and helps to relieve stress all while having fun.

With more than a dozen exciting videos, students can be part of the fun with interactive art classes, games, book readings, dance performances, music lessons, and so much more. Each AKI video makes art accessible to every child with closed captioning, ASL Interpretation, and audio description included for each video.

All 20 videos are available on https://smdcac.org/AKIDigital and can be accessed at any time and as many times as kids want.
